Committee 2021
Conductor and Musical Director - Bob Haselip Bob Haselip has been directing the Littlehampton Concert Band since October 2003. He took over the band at only 24 years old having already had a long musical career with having studied music all his life. He originally joined the Littlehampton Concert Band when he was 11 years old and just starting the flute. He then left the band after about 5 years to pursue other musical activities, gaining valuable experience with other bands and ensembles including Horsham British Legion & Canterbury Christ Church University Concert Band. Bob has now come full circle and is enjoying working with the band he first started with. As well as conducting the Littlehampton Concert Band, Bob occasionally directs other groups including standing in with other bands, and has conducted stage shows. He is also no stranger to playing, having regularly performed with a number of other musical groups including the Southdowns Concert Band and the Littlehampton Concert Band's own Giocoso Quartet on flute and piccolo. Bob is also a pianist and keen arranger of music having produced a lot of arrangements for local amateur shows and some exclusive works for the concert band as well. Bob has always been a keen promoter of youth music having won awards at a number of local competitions himself, including awards from the Arun Young Musician of the Year competition. Now he is often the other side of the desk adjudicating or comparing similar competitions and festivals. |
Chairman - Andrew Reed
I took up the clarinet at school in lessons with a friend, progressing slowly to play in school and university orchestras. Eventually I found a teaching job in Hong Kong where I had the chance to play in both the city orchestra and the operatic society band for four years. Back in the UK I had started teaching in West Sussex, where I joined the Worthing Orchestra for a while and played in various ad hoc groups. I also ran a clarinet choir in my school. I first joined the LCB to play clarinet after starting work at the West Sussex Institute of HE (now the University). I then left to fill a vacancy in the University band to play my newly acquired bass clarinet. When the student band folded I returned to a revitalised LCB which was playing to a very high standard under Bob Haselip. There was a real sense of fun and enjoyment as well as musical achievement. I felt very happy and privileged to be a small part of this group. |
Treasurer - Hazel Haselip
Hazel Haselip began her musical career at school and pursued her talent through the Women's Royal Army Corps. She has played with a host of local bands and orchestras giving her a wealth of experience - ideal for leading the Clarinet section of the band. As a qualified book-keeper, Hazel is also the perfect person to keep the band's accounts in order. |
Librarian - Janet Donnellan
Janet was sitting quietly in a restaurant one day when a rabble of musicians came in chattering excitedly about their last performance. Janet's talent for the flute was soon discovered and she has been with the band for several years. Janet keeps the band's ever expanding library in order.
