Encomium for the Courageous
Written by Nolan E Schmidt, this power work was written following the space shuttle Columbia disaster and is a poignant way to remember those who lost their lives. Very dramatic but also uplifting, it went down a storm at our Last Night of the Proms concerts in 2010. The publisher is Neil A Kjos Music.

Chicago
Chicago has been hugely popular for years and you can hear on the recording how much the audience love this arrangement. This is Ted Rickets' version and it has loads of character. Published by Hal Leonard Corporation.

Waltz number 2
The famous Waltz number 2 from the Suite for Variety Orchestra by Dmitri Shostakovich (not from the 2nd Jazz Suite as most people think!). Quirky and full of life, this is a great arrangement by Johan de Meij is available from Hal Leonard Corporation.

Aladdin
This is a great arrangement of Disney's Aladdin score, arranged by John Moss. The original music is by Alan Menkin and works brilliantly for Concert Band. The publishers are Hal Leonard Corporation.

Lovely arrangement of the John Williams classic. It's not available to the public as was arranged by the band's own Laura King.

Abba on Broadway
This is an extract from the splendid arrangement of popular Abba tunes by Michael Brown and published by Hal Leonard. It is a rather clever version which pulls together a number of the songs in a really fun way.

All At Sea
This is a great arrangement of nautical marches by Littlehampton Concert Band principal horn player, Ian Rainger. It combines the popular tunes of Anchor's Away, Hearts of Oak, A Rovin', and Life of the Ocean Wave.

Copland Tribute
Clare Grundman's arrangement of some of Aaron Copland's most famous works is a must for any concert band. This extract is the opening theme, Fanfare for the Common Man. The publisher for this work is Boosey & Hawkes.

Rhapsody on an Old English Sea Song
One of life's more difficult questions - What shall we do with the drunken sailor? Stuart Johnson answers this with his excellent theme & variations take on the shanty. R Smith are the publishers of this excellent arrangement.

Highlights from Chess
What a piece this is. Johan de Meij's impressive arrangement is the definitive version of Chess for concert band and it's just excellent. Molenaar Edition is the publisher and this extract is the closing of the work which includes the popular 'Anthem' number from the show.

Parade of the Tall Ships
We used this piece to open our nautical Last Night of the Proms in Littlehampton. It was written by Jay Chattaway and is an impressive and clever work specially written for a gathering of tall ships in New York. Publishers are William Allen Music Inc.

Wim Laseroms rousing march was a favourite at our recent Last Night of the Proms series which had an Olympic theme.

Bolero
Ravel's masterpiece, Bolero has been cleverly cut down and reworked for Concert Band by Jay Bocook.

Champions Theme
This beautiful melody by Carl Davis is really haunting and was used as the theme to the 1984 film.

Crown Imperial
A work of true patriotism. Sir William Walton's famous coronation march really inspired the audience at our Last Night of the Proms concerts in 2008.

Performed at the opening ceremony of the Sydney Olympics by Olivia Newton-John and John Farnham, this great piece really got everyone going.

Festive Overture
Our opening to the Last Night of the Proms 2008 was this epic work by Alfred Reed. This is an absolutely excellent piece of Concert Band writing.

A real toe-tapping number this - both for the band and our audiences alike. This is Ted Ricketts arrangement of the music by W Casey & J Jacobs and is available from Hal Leonard Corporation.

Yorkshire Overture
Philip Sparke has written some great music for concert band including this light, fun overture. It proved very popular at our summer concerts and if you want a copy, speak nicely to the good people at Angle Music or R Smith & Co.

Blues In The Night
We traditionally play this Harold Arlen classic each year in memory of band members who have passed on so holds a special place for us. This arrangement is by the late Eric Osterling and is performed beautifully by Nicky Morris on Trumpet. The publishers are Warner Bros.

Phantom of the Opera
There are so many arrangements of Andrew Lloyd Webber's famous musical available but I think this is one of the best. Warren Barker skillfully combines subtlety and beauty with horror and excitement to create an excellent arrangement. The publishers are Hal Leonard Corporation.

Tameside Overture
This excellent composition for concert band by Philip Sparke is a really satisfying piece of music to both play and listen to. This recording, made in 2007, was the first time we ever performed this piece and it went down really well with the audience. Find it published by Anglo Music and available through R Smith and Co.

A truly awesome piece of music. This is a collection of 3 traditional Irish folk songs and is cleverly put together by Peter Graham in this exciting and fast arrangement. Gramercy Music Publishing are the publishers.

Trumpets Wild
A great fun number featuring our trumpet section. This piece has a number of different sections in varying styles and is lots of fun to play. It was composed by Harold Walters and published by Rubank Incorporated Music Publishers.

Pirates of the Caribbean
This smash hit blockbuster film had a brilliant soundtrack written by Klaus Badelt and this exciting arrangement really gets the adventure of the movie across. The arranger for this was John Wasson and it was published by the Hal Leonard Publishing Corporation.

March and Procession of Bacchus
A classic from the French composer Leo Delibes. This is a great march in the name of Bacchus, the Roman god of wine and intoxication (fitting for musicians), and was arranged for concert band by the late Eric Osterling. Publishers of this work are the Alfred Publishing Company.
